Eduardo Escobar broke open a close game with a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning, and Adam Jones added a home run in the eighth as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the host San Francisco Giants 6-4 on Monday.

The win in the opener of a two-game series allowed the Diamondbacks to move a half-game ahead of the Giants in the crowded National League wild-card race.

Arizona led just 3-2 before two walks sandwiched an infield single by Tim Locastro to load the bases in the seventh. Escobar then singled to center field, giving the Diamondbacks a three-run cushion.

The RBIs were Nos. 102 and 103 of the season for Escobar.

The Diamondbacks' uprising came immediately after Arizona reliever Matt Andriese pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth by striking out Donovan Solano to preserve a 3-2 lead.

Jones' homer, his 15th of the season, made it 6-2 in the eighth.

The Giants closed within 6-4 in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Evan Longoria and a two-out, dropped fly ball by Diamondbacks left fielder Locastro, on which Kevin Pillar was generously credited with an RBI double.

Facing the potential tying run, Archie Bradley came on to strike out pinch hitter Mike Yastrzemski for his eighth save.

Left-hander Alex Young (6-3) beat the Giants for the second time this season, allowing two runs (one earned) and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Right-hander Tyler Beede (3-8) was the hard-luck loser, the victim of two unearned runs and a third on a double-play grounder. He was charged with three runs (one earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings, with four strikeouts and no walks.

Buster Posey and Abiatal Avelino drove in the first two Giants runs, Avelino getting his first career RBI in his fourth game.

Wilmer Flores had three hits and Escobar two for the Diamondbacks, who lost three of four to the Giants when the teams met earlier this month in Arizona.

Brandon Crawford collected three hits while Longoria and Pillar had two each for the Giants, who were coming off a two-game sweep at Oakland over the weekend.
