Mika Zibanejad scored with 26 seconds left in overtime as the New York Rangers completed a perfect five-game road trip with a dramatic 3-2 victory over the host Winnipeg Jets on Monday night.
The Rangers continued their strong start under new coach Peter Laviolette by winning for the seventh time in nine games. New York went unbeaten on a road trip of at least five games for the first time in team history.
Artemi Panarin had a goal and added two assists to extend his season-opening point streak to nine games. Panarin matched Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert (1971-72) for the fourth-longest point streak from the start of a season in team history.
Chris Kreider scored the tying goal with 6:48 left in the third during New York's third power play of the game, and the Rangers survived playing short-handed for the first 1:41 of overtime until Zibanejad won it.
After Panarin came onto the ice, he spotted Zibanejad alone in the left circle. Zibanejad got Panarin's pass and buried a one-timer past Connor Hellebuyck to give the Rangers their sixth road win in seven tries this season.
David Gustafsson and Nikolaj Ehlers scored for the Jets, who lost their second straight game but also gained a point for the fifth straight contest (3-0-2). Cole Perfetti had two assists.
New York goalie Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves for his third win on the trip. He kept the game tied after Kreider scored with a diving stop on Kyle Connor's tip-in try with 5:14 remaining.
Hellebuyck made 23 saves.
After missing the net twice on breakaways, the Rangers opened the scoring with 96 seconds remaining in the first period. Panarin charged to the right side of the crease and deflected in a crisp pass by Jacob Trouba from the middle of the right circle.
New York's lead lasted for 68 seconds, as Gustafsson beat Shesterkin with a wrist shot from the middle of the right circle after controlling a cross-ice pass from Perfetti.
Ehlers gave the Jets a 2-1 lead by finishing off a wraparound with 14:52 remaining in regulation, but Kreider got his fourth power-play goal of the season when his stick grazed Adam Fox's blast from the middle of the blue line and went in.
