Jack Campbell stopped 30 shots for his first shutout of the season and Mitch Marner had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.

It was just the third career shutout in 59 career starts for Campbell, who was playing for the first time in a month-plus after suffering a leg injury in a victory at Calgary on Jan. 24.

William Nylander, Jason Spezza and Zach Hyman also scored goals for Toronto, which extended its North Division lead to six points over the Oilers with the win. The Maple Leafs did it despite playing without the NHL's leading goal scorer, Auston Matthews, who is day-to-day with a sore right wrist. John Tavares added two assists.

Mike Smith had 25 saves in suffering his first defeat in seven starts this season for Edmonton. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Oilers, who lost for just the third time in their last 14 games. The two teams resume their three-game series on Monday night.

Toronto scored two goals in the span of 73 seconds near the end of the first period en route to a 2-0 lead.

Nylander, who scored both goals in a 2-1 overtime victory over Calgary on Wednesday, made it three goals in a row when he opened the scoring with a power-play goal, snapping an 0-for-12 power play drought for the Leafs. The wide-open Nylander took a pass from Marner near the left faceoff dot and then fired a wrist shot through traffic and past Smith's blocker side for his eighth goal of the season.

Marner then followed with his 10th goal of the season, getting a nice feed from Tavares in the high slot and beating Smith with a wrist shot for his 10th multi-point game of the season.

Spezza extended the lead to 3-0 midway through the second period with his fifth goal of the season, breaking in on the right wing on an odd-man break with Jimmy Vesey and then getting Smith to bite on a fake slap shot before firing a wrist into the top near corner. It was the 952nd career point for Spezza, which moved him into a tie with Rick Tocchet for 102nd place in NHL history.

Hyman made it 4-0 in the third period with his fifth goal of the season, winning a puck battle with Darnell Nurse in the left corner and then weaving his way through the Edmonton defense before firing a wrist shot past Smith's glove side.
