Canucks 5, Islanders 4 (OT): Brad Richardson scored the game-winner after banking the puck off Roberto Luongo at 2:16 of overtime to lift visiting Vancouver past New York.
Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist and Chris Higgins, captain Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler also scored as the Canucks halted a modest two-game skid and sent the Islanders to their fifth loss in six games (1-3-2). Luongo turned aside 28 shots for Vancouver, which erased an early two-goal deficit only to see the Islanders tie it on Fran Nielsen's goal with 72 seconds left in regulation
Matt Moulson scored a pair of goals, Brock Nelson notched his first career tally and Nielsen also had two assists for for New York. Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves but gave up a couple of costly long rebounds in falling to 14-8-2 lifetime against the Canucks.
The Islanders pounced on the Canucks to take a 2-0 lead in the opening 4:41 when Nelson swept home a rebound for his first goal in his fifth career game and Moulson scored on the power play. Kesler answered 16 seconds later, collecting a long rebound and sliding it past Nabokov before Daniel Sedin buried a shot from the left faceoff circle for the equalizer at the 9:09 mark.
Moulson reclaimed the lead with his second power-play goal early in the second, snapping a wrist shot top-shelf on Luongo from the faceoff dot. Henrik Sedin tied it again by banking home twin brother Daniel's shot before Higgins knocked home a juicy rebound from Nabokov to give Vancouver its first lead with 18 seconds left in the session.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Islanders captain John Tavares, playing in his 300th career contest, had one assist to extend his point streak to eight games while Moulson has four goals and three assists during a four-game streak. ... Henrik Sedin pushed his point streak to six games with three goals and four assists in that span. ... Nelson was in the lineup in place of F Michael Grabner, who served the first of his two-game suspension for his illegal check to the head of Carolina's Nathan Gerbe.
