Chris Mason made 25 saves and got plenty of help from his blue line in his second shutout of the season as the Winnipeg Jets posted a 2-0 victory over the host Ottawa Senators on Monday.

Jim Slater and defenseman Tobias Enstrom scored for the Jets, who snapped a three-game slide and won for just the second time in January.

The Senators saw their four-game winning streak come to an end and lost in regulation for the first time since Dec. 27.

Mason had not started since surrendering four goals in a loss at Toronto on Jan. 5, but was able to ease his way into the game in the first period as the Winnipeg defense allowed only three shots on goal. The Alberta native faced eight shots in the second and stopped 12 in the third.

Slater opened the scoring just 49 seconds into the game. Coming up on a 3-on-2 rush, Chris Thorburn had the puck on the right side and sent a hard pass into the slot to Slater, who tipped his eighth goal of the season past Craig Anderson.

It was just the second point in the last 20 games for Slater.

Enstrom made it 2-0 at the 6:48 mark of the second when he slapped a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle through traffic for his second tally of the season.
