No. 5 Duke 92, No. 16 North Carolina 90 (OT): Freshman Tyus Jones matched his season high with 22 points and also had eight assists and seven rebounds as the host Blue Devils recovered from a 10-point deficit late in regulation time to knock off the Tar Heels in ACC play.

Quinn Cook scored 22 points and made six 3-point baskets and Justise Winslow added 16 points and seven rebounds for Duke (23-3, 10-3), which went 10-of-16 from 3-point range while extending its winning streak to six games. Jahlil Okafor had 12 points and 13 rebounds and scored the go-ahead basket with 1:44 left in overtime while Amile Jefferson tallied 13 points.

Brice Johnson had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Kennedy Meeks also scored 18 points for North Carolina (18-8, 8-5), which had a chance to force a second overtime when Nate Britt intentionally missed a free throw with 3.5 seconds remaining but Winslow secured the rebound. J.P. Tokoto contributed 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Isaiah Hicks scored 12 points and Britt added 11 for the Tar Heels, who have lost four of their last five games.

Okafor’s basket gave Duke a 62-61 lead with 9:52 remaining in regulation before the Tar Heels rattled off nine straight, culminated by a basket by Hicks with 6:17 to play. Britt’s driving hoop gave North Carolina a 77-67 lead with 3:50 to play, but Tyus Jones scored nine of the points during Duke’s 14-4 charge and scored the basket to tie the game at 81 with 27.5 seconds left.

Duke jumped out to a 20-8 lead over the opening 5 1/2 minutes and led by 11 later in the half before the Tar Heels went on a 10-3 push to pull within 40-36. The Blue Devils pushed the lead to 13 on consecutive 3-pointers by Matt Jones and Cook before North Carolina pulled within 49-42 at the break and the Tar Heels opened the second half with a 12-4 burst to take their first lead of the game at 54-53 on a reverse dunk by Tokoto with 15:20 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Okafor left briefly in the first half with a left ankle injury and needed his first basket in overtime to continue his streak of scoring in double digits in every game this season. … The Tar Heels collected 19 offensive rebounds while holding a 49-46 edge on the boards. … Cook (205) became the 14th player in Duke history to reach 200 3-pointers and he also has made at least one 3-pointer in 36 consecutive games, the second-best streak in school history behind Trajan Langdon (37 from 1995-96).
