No. 10 Kansas 70, San Jose State 57: Senior center Jeff Withey had 16 points, 12 rebounds and a school-record 12 blocks to lead the host Jayhawks to their fourth straight victory.
The 7-foot Withey, the reigning Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, recorded only the second official triple-double in school history. Cole Aldrich scored 13 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked 10 shots in a 60-43 NCAA Tournament win over Dayton on March 22, 2009.
Guards Travis Releford, Elijah Johnson and Ben McLemore each added 13 points for Kansas (5-1), which held the Spartans (2-3) to 29.2 percent shooting.
The Jayhawks, who led 40-32 at halftime, held San Jose State without a field goal for the first 7:53 of the second half while going on a 18-0 run to build its lead to 58-34 with 12:18 to go.
But San Jose State, led by senior guard James Kinney's 30 points, answered with a 16-0 run of its own a few minutes later and got as close as seven points, 64-57, on a Kinney 3-pointer with 2:30 remaining before the Jayhawks closed it out with a 6-0 run that included Withey's final two blocks.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Withey, who had 140 blocks last season, has 202 in his career and passed Danny Manning for sixth place in Jayhawk history. ... Kansas has won 25 straight games at Allen Fieldhouse, which is tied for the seventh-best in school history. ... Releford added four rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
