Brad Tinsley hit a jumper with nine seconds left to lift No. 22 Vanderbilt to a 64-62 victory over Oregon State on Monday in the championship game of the TicketCity Legends Classic at East Rutherford, N.J.
John Jenkins scored 14 points and Jeffery Taylor added 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Commodores (4-1), who overcame 23 turnovers.
Vanderbilt used a 10-1 run at the start of the second half to open up a 41-32 edge. The Beavers never let the deficit grow larger than nine points and kept chipping away, getting 13 points from Devon Collier in the half and finally pulling even again when Joe Burton converted a layup with 2:17 left.
The teams traded baskets and the Commodores got it back with the clock winding down as Tinsley knocked down the jumper to give Vanderbilt the lead.
Oregon State had a last chance, but Jared Cunningham missed a jumper with two seconds left and Lance Goulbourne got the defensive rebound to seal it.
Collier finished with 19 points and Ahmad Starks added 16 for the Beavers (4-1), who were aiming for their first 5-0 start since 1986.
