Freshman LeBryan Nash scored 13 points to lead Oklahoma State to a 71-39 season-opening blowout victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night in Stillwater, Okla.
The Cowboys suffocated the Islanders from the start, forcing several bad shots and turnovers to build a 31-11 halftime edge. Then Oklahoma State blew the game open with a 13-6 run to open the second half.
Nash hit a three-pointer and another jumper during that run, and minutes later Fred Gulley scored on a fast-break layup to extend Oklahoma State’s lead to 58-29.
Jean-Paul Olukemi added 11 points, and Philip Jurick had 10 rebounds off the bench for the Cowboys, who held Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to 18 percent shooting in the first half.
The Islanders missed 19 of their first 23 shots, including 0-for-7 from three-point range, and dug themselves an early 24-8 hole.
Chris Hawkins-Mast led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. The Islanders finished 1-of-15 from long range.
Oklahoma State has won 33 straight non-conference games at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
