Austin Freeman did his best to keep Georgetown from falling prey to the upset bug on Saturday.
Freeman poured in 32 points, including seven of the Hoyas’ 13 3-pointers, as Georgetown knocked off UNC-Asheville 87-72 to improve to 6-0 this season.
Freeman’s performance was part of an explosive offense for the Hoyas, who shot 30-for-55 (54.5 percent) from the field and 13-for-26 (50 percent) from 3-point range.
Hollis Thompson’s double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds helped Georgetown, and Julian Vaughn just missed a double-double of his own with 16 points and nine rebounds.
After a rough few minutes to open the first half, the Hoyas grabbed control and held on, opening up a 44-27 halftime lead as Freeman scored the final five points of the half. Georgetown led by as many as 25 points midway through the second half.
J.P. Primm scored 17 points for UNC-Asheville (2-3), and Matt Dickey totaled 15 points and seven rebounds.
