Rockets 145, Lakers 130: James Harden and Terrence Jones scored 33 points apiece despite both sitting out the fourth quarter as visiting Houston set an NBA season high scoring total while routing Los Angeles.
Harden added 12 assists and Chandler Parsons collected 19 points and eight assists for the Rockets, who moved 2 1/2 games clear of the Portland Trail Blazers in the race for the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference. Isaiah Canaan scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench and Omer Asik recorded 10 points and 15 rebounds for Houston.
Nick Young scored 32 points and Jodie Meeks had 30 as the Lakers dropped their fifth straight and matched the franchise record of 53 losses set by the 1957-58 Minneapolis Lakers. Steve Nash handed out five assists in 13 minutes to move past Mark Jackson and into third place on the all-time list.
Nash provided a spark in the second quarter and Los Angeles went into the break trailing just 66-61. The Rockets quickly went to work in the third quarter as Harden and Jones hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to 79-67 and kick off a stretch of eight straight made field goals.
Harden capped the run with a deep 3-pointer to make it 94-71 with 5:58 left in the third, and his pull-up 3-pointer with 3:31 on the clock extended it out to 25 points. Houston left most of its starters on the bench for the entire fourth quarter but still managed to put up at least 30 points in each of the four periods.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Nash (10,335) moved past Jackson (10,334) for third place on the all-time assists list when he found Meeks for a transition dunk in the second quarter. … Jones limped off the court with 1:20 left in the third quarter with a calf strain. … The Rockets’ 49-point third quarter was one point shy of the franchise record set in 1991, and the 145 was the most scored by any team in a non-overtime game in four years.
