Clippers 111, Celtics 105: Blake Griffin collected 29 points, eight assists and six rebounds as Los Angeles ensured coach Doc Rivers a 2-0 start over his former club by dispatching visiting Boston.
Jamal Crawford added 26 points and Jared Dudley scored 18 for the Clippers, who improved to 2-1 with Chris Paul (shoulder) out. Darren Collison started again in Paul’s place and recorded 15 points and six assists while DeAndre Jordan chipped in 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Jordan Crawford and Avery Bradley scored 24 points apiece to lead the Celtics, who have lost six in a row and nine of 10. Jeff Green had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Boston.
The Celtics held a brief lead in the third quarter and were within 88-82 at the start of the fourth before the Clippers began to run away. Boston turned the ball over four times in the first five minutes and Crawford scored five straight points to cap a quarter-opening 12-2 run as Los Angeles pushed it back to double figures and held off a late charge to clinch the victory.
The Clippers used an 18-0 run in the first quarter to open up a 26-10 lead before the Celtics recovered to chop it to a nine-point deficit at the end of the period. Los Angeles led by as much as 11 in the second quarter but Boston kept chipping away and pulled to within 59-55 at the break and used a 7-0 run to take a 70-69 lead midway through the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Clippers G J.J. Redick (broken wrist) has been out since Nov. 29 but is expected to make his return against the Lakers on Friday. … The Celtics dropped to 0-3 on their five-game road trip and still have stops at Western Conference powers Golden State and Portland left. … Boston F Kris Humphries (ankle) returned from a one-game absence and made his first start of the season, finishing with six points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes.
