LaMarcus Aldridge scored a career-high 42 points on 15-of-23 shooting and added eight rebounds as the host Portland Trail Blazers outlasted the Chicago Bulls, 109-103, on Monday.
Andre Miller recorded 27 points, 11 assists and six boards and Rudy Fernandez scored 18 points off the bench for the Trail Blazers, who shot 52 percent (35-of-68) against one of the league’s premier defenses and made 37-of-40 free throws.
Aldridge scored 15 points in the third period as Portland snapped a halftime tie, pushing the lead to as much as 65-56 on Miller’s layup with 5:20 left. Derrick Rose countered with six points in the final 3:33 to bring the Bulls back within 75-72 heading to the fourth quarter.
Chicago pulled within a point three times but could not grab the lead as Miller and Fernandez took over, combining for the Blazers’ first 16 points of the frame to open the advantage to 91-83 with 5:13 left.
Aldridge finished it off, scoring 13 points over the final four minutes to seal it. He made 12-of-14 free throws and surpassed his previous career high of 40 set six days ago vs. San Antonio.
Rose scored 36 points and Carlos Boozer added 17 and 12 boards for the Bulls, who fell to 1-2 on their five-game trip and 11-12 on the road overall.
