Brayden Point and Ross Colton each scored for the second consecutive game as the Tampa Bay Lightning continued their mastery of Detroit on home ice by edging the Red Wings 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
In collecting its league-leading 26th win, Tampa Bay stretched its winning streak over the Red Wings at Amalie Arena to 17 straight -- the longest active home streak by any team over one opponent.
The NHL record is 25 consecutive home victories set by Anaheim against Calgary from 2004 to 2017.
The Lightning also improved to 20-1-1 in the last 22 regular-season home contests against Detroit, which last won in Tampa in a 6-2 decision on Feb. 17, 2011.
Victor Hedman, Ondrej Palat, Pat Maroon and Andreas Borgman provided assists for the Lightning, who beat Detroit for the fourth time (4-1-0) this season.
In moving his regular-season career mark to 12-0-0 against the Red Wings, Andrei Vasilevskiy (23-5-1) made 25 saves on 26 shots to beat them for the fourth time this season.
Detroit's Adam Erne scored for the second straight game, and Frans Nielsen had an assist. Thomas Greiss allowed two goals on 29 shots but fell to 2-15-5 -- the most losses in the NHL.
Lightning defensemen Erik Cernak (out five games) and Jan Rutta (out for second) did not play, while Detroit right winger Valtteri Filppula returned to the lineup for the first time in 15 games.
Vasilevskiy stopped a great chance by Luke Glendening in the game's first minute, denying a point-blank attempt on an odd-man break. Shortly after, a big scrum in front of Greiss ended with the rookie Colton popping in his fourth marker at 4:07.
Just over three minutes later, Point connected for his third goal in two games and 16th overall after taking a diagonal pass from Hedman as the Lightning led 2-0 after one period.
In a scoreless second, Detroit made a strong push and spent more time in its offensive end in the second half of the frame, but Vasilevskiy steered aside all seven shots by the Red Wings as the home side clung to the two-goal lead.
A 2013 second-round pick by Tampa Bay, Erne cut the deficit to 2-1 at 4:00 of the third with his eighth, but Vasilevskiy stood strong with Greiss pulled for the extra skater to improve this season to 13-0-0 on home ice.
