Cody Eakin scored a pair of second-period goals, including a short-handed tally, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves for his third shutout of the season to lead the Vegas Golden Knights to a 5-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night in Las Vegas.
Alex Tuch and Nick Holden each had a goal and an assist, and Tomas Hyka also scored for Vegas, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Max Pacioretty added two assists, his first two helpers of the season.
It was the 51st career shutout for Fleury, tying him with Curtis Joseph, Rogie Vachon, Tomas Vokoun and Dave Kerr for 24th place on the all-time NHL shutouts list.
John Gibson had nine saves for Anaheim before being pulled after Holden's goal at 7:19 of the second period made it 3-0. Ryan Miller finished up and stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced. The Ducks have alternated losses and wins over the past seven games.
Tuch started the scoring with a power-play goal late in the first period, putting in a rebound of a Pacioretty redirect of a Colin Miller shot that bounced off Gibson's blocker to the right of the net. It was Tuch's fifth goal of the season.
The Golden Knights then broke the game open with three goals in the span of nine minutes early in the second period. Eakin started the spurt, finishing a two-on-one with Tuch with a one-timer from the right circle over Gibson's glove side.
Holden was then credited with an unassisted goal when his shot from the top of the slot caromed off the dasher boards straight out through the crease, through William Karlsson's legs to the stick of Adam Henrique, who knocked it into his own goal.
Eakin then made it 4-0 with a short-handed goal, taking an outlet pass from Ryan Carpenter and then beating Miller with a backhander top shelf for his seventh goal of the season.
Hyka increased the Vegas lead to 5-0 early in the third period with his first goal of the season, flipping in a rebound of a Tomas Nosek shot from the slot.
