DETROIT -- The Florida Panthers stuck to what they had been doing and things worked out.

Defenseman Brian Campbell's goal 1:20 into overtime gave Florida a 2-1 come-from-behind win against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena.

Campbell scored from the inside edge of the left circle as the trailer on a 3-on-2 rush. It was his second goal of the season.

"Great pass by (left winger Jonathan) Huberdeau when we had the other guy (forward Jussi Jokinen) driving the net," said Panthers coach Gerard Gallant.

Right winger Reilly Smith tied the game 1-1 with 5:22 left in the third when defenseman Aaron Ekblad's shot deflected in off of Smith. It was Smith's sixth goal.

Goaltender Roberto Luongo made 28 saves for Florida.

"We felt we had played well, just in the third period wanted to keep doing what we had been doing. Their goalie was playing pretty well, so we wanted to get some bodies in front of the net," Luongo said. "... It feels good to be able to tie it up in the third period, make a few saves, and be rewarded with the win in overtime."

Forward Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit, which has played four straight overtime games and six of its past seven, and goalie Petr Mrazek made 30 saves.

"I didn't think we were good enough tonight. I think we can play much better than we played. I think the second half of the first period was where we played the best, we had a lot of zone time during that stretch," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "It seemed like we just didn't have enough energy, we didn't win enough puck races, didn't win enough puck battles, so overall, we still sat with a lead late and disappointed to give up that lead but we need to be better for 60 before that."

Larkin gave Detroit a 1-0 lead 7:12 into the second period. He intercepted center Aleksander Barkov's pass up the middle, about 10 feet inside the Florida blue line.

Larkin skated in and beat Luongo to the stick side. It was Larkin's 10th goal, which leads NHL rookies. He has six goals and an assist in his last seven games.

The Red Wings have surrendered a third-period lead in five of their last seven games.

"I think everyone is frustrated with the loss," Larkin said. "I think it seems like it's happening more and more and I think we just have to bear down and close out the game."

Mrazek stopped Smith from the left circle and center Brandon Pirri on the rebound a little over four minutes into the third period.

"We have to close these games early in the game rather than later," Mrazek said. "You cannot wait until the end of the game. It happened a couple of time this year that we let some goals in."

The Red Wings killed off a 1:27 two-man disadvantage in the middle of the second period.

Mrazek stopped Ekblad, who broke in from the top of the slot area after taking a pass, with about two minutes left in the second period.

An apparent goal by Smith was reversed because it was ruled that left winger Jonathan Huberdeau interfered with Mrazek 28 seconds into the game. Panthers coach Gerard Gallant challenged the no-goal call.

Luongo made a big save on center Pavel Datsyuk with 8:48 left in the first period. Datsyuk walked out from the side of the net to Luongo's right and took a backhand shot.

Luongo made a glove save on forward Brad Richards' shot from the bottom of the left circle with 3:34 remaining in the opening period.
