Canucks 2, Ducks 1: Zack Kassian scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:59 remaining in the third period as host Vancouver handed Anaheim its first one-goal loss in regulation this season.
Rookie Bo Horvat scored for the second consecutive game and Eddie Lack made 29 saves for Vancouver, which moved five points clear for a playoff spot by snapping a three-game slide against the Ducks and winning for only the second time in the last 11 meetings. Defenseman Dan Hamhuis assisted on Kassian's eighth goal in 14 games and 10th of the season to help the Canucks increase their lead over Calgary for second place in the Pacific Division to three points.
Emerson Etem scored for Anaheim, which had its five-game road winning streak snapped and fell to 26-1-7 in one-goal contests. Frederik Andersen stopped 14 shots as the Ducks lost for the second time in 10 games (8-1-1) but still lead Vancouver by 11 points in the Pacific.
Horvat took advantage of an offensive-zone turnover as he wired a shot through traffic from the right faceoff circle at 9:57 of the first period for his 11th goal of the season. The Ducks got the equalizer with 11:20 left in the third, when Nate Thompson carried the puck behind the net and fed a pass into the slot for Etem, who scored his fifth goal of the season and third in eight games.
Hamhuis carried the puck deep into the offensive zone and moved around Anaheim defenseman James Wisniewski before making a pass to Kassian, who squeezed a shot between Andersen's pads from in front. The Ducks pulled Andersen with 1 1/2 minutes left and Vancouver blue-liner Alex Edler was sent off for slashing with 58 seconds to go, but they were unable to get the equalizer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ducks C Ryan Kesler, who played his first 10 NHL seasons in Vancouver, needed stitches after he was hit in the forehead by a puck that caromed off the crossbar during warmups but made it back in time to take the opening faceoff. ... Thompson, who hit the post with 2:37 left in the third period, recorded his 100th career point. ... Anaheim appeared to take the lead with 5:20 remaining, when RW Corey Perry raised his arms after tipping Wisniewski's shot from the point, but Lack covered the puck near the goal line and the whistle blew as referee Brad Watson lost sight of the puck.
