Capitals 5, Ducks 3: Captain Alex Ovechkin scored two goals and set up two by Andre Burakovsky as visiting Washington completed a sweep of the two-game season series.

Marcus Johansson also tallied and Nicklas Backstrom notched a pair of assists for the Capitals, who improved to 2-1-0 on their four-game road trip. Justin Peters turned aside 30 shots in just his third appearance since Nov. 29 while Ovechkin increased his goal total to 36, moving one ahead of Rick Nash of the New York Rangers for the league lead.

Andrew Cogliano scored twice and Corey Perry added a goal for the Ducks, who lost for the sixth time in nine contests. Defenseman Hampus Lindholm recorded two assists and John Gibson made 23 saves as Anaheim fell at home for only the second time in seven games.

Cogliano gave Anaheim the lead 66 seconds into the contest as he buried the rebound of defenseman Francois Beauchemin's blast from the right point, but Ovechkin answered 18 seconds later with a shot from the top of the right circle off a faceoff win. The Ducks moved ahead on Perry's shot from the high slot that beat Peters to the stick side at 5:33 of the first period before Ovechkin's patented one-timer from the left circle during a power play forged a 2-2 tie at 10:26.

Johansson gave the Capitals their first lead by converting a breakaway chance 3:27 into the second and Burakovsky beat Gibson from the right hash marks less than six minutes later to make it 4-2. Cogliano halved the deficit with 7:47 left in the session before Burakovsky slipped a backhander past Gibson during a 2-on-1 rush midway through the third.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Anaheim lost D Sami Vatanen (lower body) and LW Matt Beleskey (upper body) to injuries in the first period. ... The two-goal performance by Ovechkin was his 10th of the season as he raised his total over his last 26 games to 22 tallies. ... Cogliano recorded his seventh career multi-goal effort while it was the first in the NHL for Burakovsky. ... A moment of silence was held before the game in honor of former Anaheim D Steve Montador, who passed away at his home early Sunday morning at the age of 35. Montador spent part of the 2008-09 season with the Ducks, recording four goals, 16 assists and 125 penalty minutes in 65 games. ... Backstrom increased his career point total to 553, leaving him two away from tying Bengt Gustafsson for sixth place on the franchise list.
