Canucks 3, Islanders 2: Nick Bonino and Linden Vey scored second-period goals and host Vancouver held on to edge New York.
Defenseman Ryan Stanton also tallied for the Canucks, who improved to 2-1-0 on their five-game homestand. Eddie Lack made 21 saves in a rare start as Vancouver raised its record to 5-1-1 in its last seven overall.
Matt Martin and Mikhail Grabovski scored for the Islanders, who fell to 2-2-0 on their season-high seven-game road trip. Jaroslav Halak turned aside 17 shots in defeat.
New York grabbed the lead at 9:38 of the first period as Martin raced down the slot and redirected defenseman Travis Hamonic's pass from along the right-wing boards. The Canucks pulled even 2 1/2 minutes later, when Stanton pinched from the point to bury a rebound at the left side of the crease.
Bonino put Vancouver in front eight minutes into the middle session, firing a rebound past Halak from the doorstep, and Vey doubled the advantage with 2:24 remaining in the period by slipping the puck between Halak's pads during a breakaway. Grabovski converted a cross-slot pass from Kyle Okposo following a turnover with 5:27 left in the third, but the Islanders were unable to get the equalizer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Vancouver RW Radim Vrbata was scratched due to illness. ... Lack made his first start since Dec. 17. ... New York captain John Tavares failed to notch a point but won 10 of his 14 faceoffs.
