Richards cut the deficit in half 2:53 into the middle session, sweeping a rebound into the net, but Penner knocked home a rebound of Chris Brown's shot with 2:42 left in the period for a 3-1 edge.

King ignited the comeback 45 seconds into the third, skating across the crease and tucking home a rebound of Dustin Brown's shot from the right point before Gaborik tied it nearly eight minutes with a wrister from the bottom of the left circle. Dustin Brown's goal put the Kings ahead with 7:05 to play, but Kuznetsov sent the game into overtime by scoring the equalizer with 41.5 seconds remaining.
