Kings 4, Panthers 0: Jonathan Quick set the franchise record for victories in style, registering his 30th career shutout to lift host Los Angeles.
Quick turned aside 24 shots for his fifth blanking of the season and 172nd career victory, surpassing Rogie Vachon for most in team history. Trevor Lewis scored the opening goal and set up another as the Kings blanked Florida for second time this season and beat the Panthers for the ninth time in 10 meetings.
Mike Richards, captain Dustin Brown and defenseman Alec Martinez also scored for Los Angeles, which won its second straight after losing the first three contests of its five-game homestand. Roberto Luongo made 25 saves for Florida, which closes out its four-game road trip Sunday at Anaheim.
Lewis provided Quick with the only goal he would need, swatting home a loose puck in front 11 minutes into the game. Richards doubled the lead six minutes later, skating in from the right-wing boards and beating Luongo as the Panthers' defense retreated and provided him a clear path.
Brown made it 3-0 just under the nine-minute mark of the second period, when Jarret Stoll drew Luongo out of the net and banged a shot off the right post that caromed to the captain for an easy conversion. Martinez capped the scoring on the power play with 8:01 to play in the third with his fifth goal in 10 games.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kings coach Darryl Sutter notched his 501st victory, tying Pat Burns for 16th place on the all-time list. ... Quick preserved his shutout with a sensational second-period glove save on Florida LW Tomas Fleischmann, which was upheld upon video review to ensure his glove didn't cross the goal line. ... Brown, in his second game back after missing two, suffered an upper-body injury and did not play in the third period. ... Martinez's tally marked the eighth straight game in which the Panthers have allowed a power-play goal.
