Kings 3, Oilers 1: Jeff Carter scored with 49.6 seconds remaining in the third period to snap a tie as visiting Los Angeles avenged a bitter loss in Edmonton earlier this season.
Colin Fraser and former Oiler Jarret Stoll also tallied, Trevor Lewis notched two assists and Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for the Kings, who improved to 4-5-1 away from home. The reigning Stanley Cup champions were five seconds away from a road victory on Jan. 24 before the Oilers rallied for an overtime triumph.
With overtime looming again, Lewis carried the puck down the left wing and unleashed a shot from just above the faceoff circle that Carter tipped past Nikolai Khabibulin for his team-leading seventh goal. Stoll sealed the win by firing the puck into an empty net 28 seconds later.
Sam Gagner scored a power-play goal and Khabibulin stopped 35 shots for Edmonton, which fell to 1-2-0 on its five-game homestand.
After a scoreless first period, Fraser gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead at 4:44 of the second when he chipped the rebound of Jordan Nolan's shot past Khabibulin from the right side of the crease. Gagner forged a tie with 3:10 remaining in the session as he wristed the puck between defenseman Rob Scuderi's legs and inside the left post from the top of the left faceoff circle.
