Billy Oliver and Tim Frazier combined for 36 points and keyed a game-opening blitz that propelled host Penn State to a comfortable 65-45 victory over cold-shooting Purdue on Thursday.
Frazier scored seven of his 15 points and Oliver hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first 7:28 as the Nittany Lions (9-7, 1-2 Big Ten) stormed to a 17-6 lead.
The Boilermakers (12-4, 2-1), who shot 26 percent (6-for-23) in the first half, got within four early in the second half before Penn State took control for good with an 11-1 run that made it 47-33 with 10:19 remaining.
Oliver paced Penn State with a game-high 21 points, all courtesy of a 7-for-11 effort from beyond the arc. The Nittany Lions made 10 of 21 3-pointers and also enjoyed a 35-25 rebounding advantage.
Robbie Hummel finished with 14 points to lead Purdue, which shot 31.9 percent from the floor.
