Deshaun Thomas scored 17 points and No. 2 Ohio State remained unbeaten with a 92-63 win over Oakland on Thursday night. The Buckeyes (12-0) have beaten their opponents by an average margin of 26.2 points and placed six players in double figures against the visiting Grizzlies.
Jared Sullinger scored 16 points while David Lighty and Jon Diebler had 13 apiece. William Buford and Aaron Craft each scored 12 points. Travis Bader led Oakland (7-8) with 17 points while Larry Wright scored 12. Keith Benson, who averages 17.4 points to lead Oakland, was held to eight points and had 10 rebounds.
Ohio State scored the first eight points and built a 28-15 lead. Oakland cut the deficit to 31-27 late in the half, but Ohio State scored six of the final seven points to lead 37-28 at halftime.
The Buckeyes started the second half with an 11-3 run to take a 48-31 lead. Oakland managed to cut the gap to 50-40, but Ohio State put the game away with a 20-2 spurt to lead 70-42 with 8:53 to play.
The Grizzlies play one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. Oakland has already beaten Tennessee and nearly upset Michigan State. The Grizzlies have also played West Virginia, Purdue, Illinois and Michigan.
