Bulls 111, Rockets 87: Mike Dunleavy scored all of his 21 points in the second half and Carlos Boozer added 18 points and seven rebounds as Chicago rolled over visiting Houston.
Kirk Hinrich went 5-for-6 from beyond the arc en route to 19 points and D.J. Augustin hit a trio of 3-pointers among 13 points as the Bulls connected on 14-of-24 from beyond the arc. Joakim Noah collected 13 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists as Chicago won for the seventh time in 10 games.
Jeremy Lin scored 21 points off the bench to lead the Rockets, who have dropped back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 24 and 25. Dwight Howard recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds while James Harden was held to eight points on 2-of-7 shooting for Houston.
The Bulls took a 50-42 lead into the break but really put their stamp on the game defensively at the beginning of the third quarter. The Rockets turned the ball over on five of their first six possessions in the third and did not score until Howard’s layup with 7:09 left in the period after Dunleavy and Hinrich had buried two 3-pointers apiece in a 16-0 run.
Augustin’s 3-pointer with 2:04 left in the third pushed it out to 77-48 and Chicago took a 27-point lead into the fourth. Dunleavy hit another 3-pointer to make the lead 97-70 with 7:58 to play before Houston emptied its bench.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chandler Parsons (1-of-11) and Terrence Jones (1-of-7) combined to go 2-for-18 from the field while Harden (five) and Howard (seven) combined for 12 of the Rockets’ 16 turnovers. … Dunleavy took a hard hit while absorbing a charge and received 10 stitches at the half before pouring in 18 points in the third quarter. … Chicago’s 14 made 3-pointers marked a season high, eclipsing the previous mark of 12.
