BULLS 103, 76ERS 91: Derrick Rose recorded a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds and nine assists before leaving with a season-ending knee injury as host Chicago took Game 1 from Philadelphia.
Rose was
still in the game despite the Bulls carrying a 99-87 lead with 1:09 left
when he drove the lane and planted awkwardly on his left leg. He landed
in obvious pain and was down for several minutes before being helped
off the court.
An MRI revealed that Rose had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and would be out for the remainder of the postseason.
Richard Hamilton added 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Joakim Noah
recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for Chicago.
Rose,
who missed five of the last 10 games of the regular season and 27 games
overall, went 1 for 7 from the floor in the first quarter and did not
find a rhythm until less than three minutes remained in the half, when
he scored on three straight possessions.
Hamilton shouldered the scoring load with 11 points in the first
quarter to give Chicago an early lead and Rose’s outburst late in the
second put the Bulls on top, 53-42, at the half.
The 76ers made a
brief run out of the break but Rose scored five points and handed out
an assist during a 9-0 run to stretch the lead back to double figures.
The dagger came with 6:07 left in the fourth quarter, when Rose hit a
deep 3-pointer with a hand in his face as the shot clock was winding
down to make it a 20-point gap, 93-73.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Elton Brand
collected 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Philadelphia. … The
Bulls went 18-9 without Rose during the regular season. … Chicago
reserve Kyle Korver scored all 11 of his points in the final 13:04 of
the game.
