Nick Ahmed homered, and Eduardo Escobar reached 100 RBIs for the season as the Arizona Diamondbacks held on to beat the Colorado Rockies 8-7 on Tuesday night in Phoenix.
Ahmed's solo shot -- his sixth homer in his past 10 games -- started the scoring in the third inning, but the game turned in the sixth. The D-backs scored five runs to take an 8-3 lead after Colorado starter Kyle Freeland left in the middle of an at-bat with an undisclosed lower-body injury.
Colorado's Trevor Story went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, including a bases-loaded bloop single in the seventh as part of a three-run rally that sliced the Rockies' deficit to 8-6.
Arizona reliever Kevin Ginkel got help from a double play in a scoreless eighth before Archie Bradley nailed down his sixth save, despite giving up a sacrifice fly to Story in the ninth.
Freeland (3-11) showed discomfort after going to a 3-0 count on Ahmed and limped off after a quick visit from manager Bud Black and the trainer.
Arizona, with a runner on second base, piled on against reliever Bryan Shaw.
Ahmed completed the walk, and Shaw then walked Carson Kelly to load the bases with one out. Pinch hitter Jake Lamb knocked in two runs with a grounder to center for a 5-3 lead. Ketel Marte followed with an RBI fielder's choice, and Escobar pulled a ball into the right field corner for a two-run triple to make it 8-3.
With that hit, Escobar reached 100 RBIs and became the 10th switch-hitter in major league history to have 20 homers, 20 doubles and 10 triples in the same season. The last to do so was Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins in 2007.
Freeland gave up five runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Arizona starter Alex Young (5-3) went six innings, allowing three runs and seven hits, striking out four and walking one.
Nolan Arenado, playing in his 1,000th game, hit his 31st home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning.
David Peralta had three hits and two runs for Arizona, which has won three in a row to get back over .500.
