Asdrubal Cabrera went 3-for-5 with a home run and drove in four runs Thursday as the visiting New York Mets walloped the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-6.

Wilmer Flores also homered, had three RBIs and scored twice for the Mets, who won their third straight and improved to 11-9 in July.

David Freese and Josh Harrison homered for the Pirates, who lost for the second day in a row following an 11-game winning streak.

New York left-hander Steven Matz (5-8) struck out nine in six innings to break a three-start losing streak. He allowed four runs on three hits with two walks.

Pirates rookie Nick Kingham (5-5), who had won his previous three starts, lasted three-plus innings. He gave up six runs and seven hits, with one strikeout and four walks.

New York took a 2-0 lead in the first. Michael Conforto hit a two-out double ahead of Flores' ninth homer.

Pittsburgh answered, also with two outs, in the bottom of the first. Gregory Polanco walked and Freese sent his sixth homer to right to make it 2-2.

Cabrera's RBI double off the wall in right put the Mets up 3-2 in the second, and Devin Mesoraco's sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 4-2 in the third.

The Pirates tied it in the third. Jordan Luplow singled with one out, and Harrison followed with his sixth homer.

In the fourth, Amed Rosario led off with a single and scored on Cabrera's 18th homer for a 6-4 Mets lead. Brandon Nimmo later walked and scored on Freese's throwing error, making it 7-4.

New York added three runs in the seventh on Rosario's RBI single, an RBI groundout by Cabrera and a wild pitch by reliever Richard Rodriguez.

Luplow's two-out RBI triple in the seventh brought Pittsburgh to within 10-5.

The Mets added a run in the eighth on Matthew den Dekker's sacrifice fly and another in the ninth on Flores' sacrifice fly.

Adam Frazier hit a two-out RBI double in the ninth for Pittsburgh.
