NEW YORK -- Chase Headley scored the winning run on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the New York Yankees a 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday afternoon.

The Yankees picked up their fourth walk-off win of the season and reached .500 (39-39) for the seventh time since May 22 when Headley slid home as Tony Barnette's 1-1 pitch to Jacoby Ellsbury went off catcher Robinson Chirinos' glove and toward the backstop.

The winning rally began when Headley drew a walk and was sacrificed to second by Didi Gregorius. After a walk to Aaron Hicks, Castro moved the runners to second and third with a weak groundout to first base. Two pitches later, Ellsbury waved in Headley as the Yankees had their second straight wild celebration at the plate.

Four New York pitchers combined on 16 strikeouts. Michael Pineda had the first 12 in six innings and Aroldis Chapman (2-0) stranded Adrian Beltre at first by getting two strikeouts in the ninth.

The game featured a combined 26 strikeouts and neither team did much or had many chances at offense.

Shin-Soo Choo gave Texas a 1-0 lead four pitches into the game with a leadoff home run to right field. Didi Gregorius tied the score with a solo shot into the right-field seats in the fifth off A.J. Griffin.

Texas had two on in the first and fourth, but Pineda got out of it by striking out Rougned Odor and Mitch Moreland.

New York loaded the bases on consecutive walks to pinch- hitter Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury with two outs in the seventh against Jake Diekman, who preserved the deadlock by getting Brett Gardner on a groundout to second base.

Pineda turned in his fifth career double-digit strikeout game and upped his total to 108 as he allowed one run and two hits. Griffin also allowed one run and two hits in five innings during his second start since coming off the disabled list.

NOTES: The Yankees announced RHP Chad Green would start Sunday in San Diego and pushed LHP CC Sabathia back to Monday in Chicago. The move is to protect Sabathia from having to run the bases in a National League ballpark. ... Texas manager Jeff Banister said there has not been a decision on what RHP Yu Darvish (right shoulder discomfort) will do next. Darvish pitched a 46-pitch simulated game Wednesday and the decision on his next step in the rehab will likely be made Friday in Minnesota. ... New York RF Carlos Beltran (right hamstring tightness) said he was doing better but sat out a second straight game. Beltran may not play Friday since he would have to play the field. ... Yankees C Brian McCann said his knee was fine Thursday after he was seen grabbing at it rounding first base after homering in the eighth Wednesday. "I may not be flying around the bases, but I'll be all right," McCann said.
