Red Sox 9, Yankees 4: Xander Bogaerts went 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs, Mookie Betts added a blast among his three hits and Joe Kelly worked into the seventh inning as visiting Boston handed New York its third straight loss.
Daniel Nava also went deep, Yoenis Cespedes collected three hits and an RBI while scoring twice and Mike Napoli lifted a pair of sacrifice flies for the Red Sox, who improved to 5-3 on their 10-game road trip. Kelly (3-3) allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six over 6 2/3 innings en route to his first victory in six starts since being acquired from St. Louis.
Martin Prado went 2-for-3 with a solo homer while Francisco Cervelli and Derek Jeter recorded an RBI apiece for the Yankees, who fell five games behind Detroit for the American League's second wild-card spot. Brian McCann also homered and Shane Greene (4-2) was tagged for six runs on six hits and three walks over 2 2/3 frames in the opener of New York's nine-game homestand.
Boston got to Greene early as Betts singled with one out in the first inning and scored on Cespedes' double two batters later. Napoli followed with a sacrifice fly and Nava belted a three-run blast to right field in the third to make it 5-0.
Bogaerts launched a solo shot later in the frame and Betts led off the fourth with his fourth homer, giving the Red Sox a 7-1 advantage. The Yankees attempted to get back in the game in the fifth as Cervelli drew a bases-loaded walk and Jeter delivered an RBI infield single on a play that originally ended the inning but was overturned by video review, but Cespedes led off the ninth with a triple and scored on Napoli's fly to right before Bogaerts sealed things with his run-scoring single later in the inning.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New York LF Brett Gardner was ejected for arguing a questionable called third strike that ended the fifth-inning rally. The speedster struck out in all three of his at-bats. ... Betts has recorded at least two hits in five of his last nine games. ... The Red Sox, who had four players account for all 12 of their hits, have won eight of their last 11 road contests.
