Adam Wainwright tossed a two-hitter and Colby Rasmus belted a two-run homer as the St. Louis Cardinals rolled to an 8-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.

Wainwright (8-3) was masterful after surrendering a one-out double by Corey Hart in the second inning. The 28-year-old retired 23 of the final 24 batters he faced, including the last 18 following a leadoff walk to Prince Fielder in the fourth.

Rickie Weeks recorded Milwaukee's other hit, a double that led off the game.

The right-hander, who improved to 5-0 at home this year, struck out eight en route to his third complete game of the season and first career shutout. Wainwright has fanned at least eight in each of his last four starts, including a season-high 12 in a 1-0 loss to San Diego on May 25.

St. Louis gave Wainwright all the support he needed in the third, when Rasmus scored on a grounder by Felipe Lopez. Two batters later, Albert Pujols lifted a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 bulge.

Rasmus hit his ninth homer of the season in the sixth to double the lead and Matt Holliday added an RBI double in the seventh for a 5-0 advantage.

The Cardinals, who have won six of eight, capped the scoring in the eighth as Ryan Ludwick hit a two-run double and scored on a single by Pujols.

Randy Wolf (4-5) fell to 3-6 lifetime against St. Louis, yielding six hits and five runs in 6 2/3 frames. The veteran left-hander walked four and struck out four.

The Brewers have lost five of their last six and fell to 1-4 on their seven-game road trip.
