Pinch-hitter Jim Edmonds hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 on Monday for their season-high tying fifth straight win.

Rickie Weeks hit a two-run homer for the Brewers, who have won 11 of their last 15 games. Milwaukee avoided losing seven straight to Cincinnati for the first time since the series began in 1997.

Ryan Hanigan drove in both runs for Cincinnati, which went 2-for-8 and missed a chance to tie the game in the ninth thanks to a base-running blunder.

With the game tied at 2, Edmonds drove a 1-2 fastball from Bronson Arroyo (10-6) over the center-field wall for his eighth homer of the season.

John Axford worked around a one-out double in the ninth for his 15th save in 16 chances since taking over the closer’s role. Carlos Villanueva (1-0) threw a perfect seventh for the win.

Arroyo and Randy Wolf held two of the highest scoring offenses in check for most of the game.

After Rickie Weeks’ two-run homer tied it in the third, the two starters traded zeros. Arroyo allowed three runs and three hits in eight innings for his second complete game of the season.

Wolf, coming off the worst start of his career, yielded two runs and five hits in seven innings.
