Adam Erne scored two power-play goals, Filip Hronek supplied a goal and two assists and the Detroit Red Wings snapped the visiting Carolina Hurricanes' eight-game winning streak with a 4-2 triumph on Tuesday.
Detroit avenged a 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Sunday.
The Red Wings' Robby Fabbri tallied the go-ahead goal in the second period and Dylan Larkin recorded two assists. Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves for Detroit, which improved to 2-3-0 against the Hurricanes this season.
Nino Niederreiter and Sebastian Aho scored for Carolina, and James Reimer stopped 24 shots.
The Red Wings led 2-1 after the first period.
Detroit's Anthony Mantha was whistled for slashing in the first minute of the contest. The Hurricanes took advantage of the ensuing power play when Niederreiter scored his 13th goal at 2:21.
Jake Bean passed the puck from the point to Jesper Fast at the right circle. Fast found Niederreiter cutting to the net, and Bernier couldn't recover in time.
Carolina's Haydn Fleury was called for interference less than two minutes later, and the Red Wings also cashed in their first power-play opportunity when Erne fired in a rebound from the left circle. Filip Zadina and Hronek were credited with assists.
Cedric Paquette's roughing penalty led to Erne's second goal of the game. Reimer had his stick knocked out of his hands, and that proved costly. Larkin fed the puck to Erne in the slot, and he fired it through Reimer's legs. Hronek added another assist on the goal at 12:11.
Detroit took a 3-2 lead in the second period.
Aho's one-timer from the right circle at 1:50 of the middle period tied it at 2-2. He beat Bernier above the goalie's left shoulder. Dougie Hamilton and Martin Necas picked up the assists.
The Red Wings regained the lead thanks to Larkin's playmaking. Larkin skated end to end, then dropped a backhanded pass to Fabbri, who shoveled the puck past Reimer at 12:28. Marc Staal also received an assist.
Hronek's goal was an empty-netter with 25.5 seconds left. With the Hurricanes applying heavy pressure in the late going, Hronek captured the puck behind his own net and flipped it all the way down the ice for his first goal this season.
