Kings 3, Islanders 0: Martin Jones made 16 saves for his first NHL shutout in his second career start as host Los Angeles sent New York to its ninth consecutive defeat (0-7-2).
Anze Kopitar and captain Dustin Brown scored goals to lift the Kings their third straight victory and give them points in 14 of their last 15 games (10-1-4). Tyler Toffoli added an empty-net tally in support of Jones, who extended Los Angeles' club record to 15 games without allowing more than two goals.
Kevin Poulin turned aside 21 shots for the Islanders, who fell to 0-9-0 in their last nine games away from home. New York hasn't won in regulation since Nov. 12 and has not prevailed on the road since Nov. 1.
Defenseman Alec Martinez set up the first goal with a slick pass off the right-wing boards to Kopitar, who cut to the middle and beat Poulin to the glove side at 12:08 of the second period. The assist was Martinez's second point of the season and first in 13 games.
Brown added an insurance tally midway through the third period, beating Poulin on a wraparound to give Los Angeles its fourth straight home win over the Islanders and an 8-1-1 record in the last 10 meetings. Toffoli capped the scoring with 64 seconds to play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brown's goal moved him within one point of 400 for his career and defenseman Drew Doughty notched an assist to close within one point of 200. ... Islanders captain John Tavares was held off the scoresheet, marking the first time this season he has failed to record a point in back-to-back games. ... The Kings came up empty on five chances with the man advantage and are 0-for-30 on the power play in the last eight games.
