Coyotes 2, Flyers 1: Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a power-play goal to snap a tie late in the second period and Thomas Greiss turned aside 36 shots as Phoenix won its second straight road game.
Signed to a one-year deal in the offseason, Greiss denied Adam Hall on a penalty shot in the first period after the latter lost control of the puck. Fourth-liner Rob Klinkhammer also tallied for Phoenix, which improved to 2-2-0 on its five-game trip.
Maxime Talbot scored and Steve Mason finished with 29 saves for the Flyers, who have mustered just six goals in five games this season. Philadelphia also suffered its first loss with coach Craig Berube at the helm.
Phoenix answered Talbot's tying goal by scoring with 13 seconds remaining in the second period. With Zac Rinaldo serving a high-sticking penalty, Ekman-Larsson accepted Mike Ribeiro's pass and deftly skated around a Philadelphia defender before wiring a shot past Mason.
Klinkhammer opened the scoring 2:41 into the first period after redirecting defenseman Derek Morris' shot past Mason. The slim advantage stood until Talbot deflected Rinaldo's spinning shot from the slot past Greiss to forge a 1-1 tie with 2:31 remaining in the second.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Philadelphia RW Scott Hartnell (upper body) and C Vincent Lecavalier (lower body) suffered injuries during the first and second periods, respectively. Neither player returned to the ice and both will have MRIs on Saturday. ... Mason fell to 3-7-0 in 10 career starts versus Phoenix. ... Rinaldo accumulated 11 minutes of penalties - including a five-minute major for fighting Phoenix D Paul Bissonette during the first period.
