Rangers 4, Devils 1: Captain Ryan Callahan scored twice and Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 26 shots as host New York eliminated Atlantic Division-rival New Jersey from postseason contention.
Derek Stepan collected a goal and an assist and Taylor Pyatt snapped a 26-game goalless drought while playing in his 800th career contest. Winners of three in a row and five of six, the Rangers pulled even in points with seventh-place Ottawa and moved three ahead of Winnipeg with three games remaining in the season.
Callahan opened the scoring 34 seconds into the contest after taking advantage of a carom behind the net before banking the puck off the right skate of Martin Brodeur (18 saves).
Stepan deflected defenseman Ryan McDonagh's point shot 7 1/2 minutes later and Pyatt's wrist shot from the slot gave New York a 3-0 lead 11:56 into the second period. Callahan tallied again 5:13 into the third after flipping the puck over a diving Brodeur on the doorstep.
Andrei Loktionov spoiled Lundqvist's bid for his 45th career shutout at 13:30 of the third period with a wrist shot from the left circle. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner finished strong to improve to 27-12-5 in his career versus the Devils.
