Blackhawks 5, Avalanche 2: Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews each recorded a goal and two assists as visiting Chicago avenged its first regulation loss of the season.
Defenseman Brent Seabrook scored a goal and set up another, Jimmy Hayes and Andrew Shaw also tallied and Ray Emery made 17 saves in improving to 11-0-0 for the Blackhawks, who had their NHL-record, season-opening 24-game point streak snapped in Colorado on March 8. Chicago improved to 3-0-0 on its four-game road trip that concludes Wednesday in Anaheim.
Captain Gabriel Landeskog and Milan Hejduk scored while Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 shots for the Avalanche, who have allowed 19 goals during their four-game losing streak.
Hayes opened the scoring 3:47 into the contest and Shaw doubled the lead 57 seconds later by converting Viktor Stalberg's cross-slot pass during a 2-on-1 rush. Colorado halved the deficit with 34 seconds remaining in the first as Landeskog skated around Seabrook and beat Emery to the stick side for his first career short-handed goal.
Kane restored the two-goal advantage at 7:49 of the second with a bad-angle shot from below the left faceoff circle, and Seabrook buried a one-timer less than seven minutes later to make it 4-1. Hejduk scored with 86 seconds left in the period, but Toews sealed the victory with 3 1/2 minutes to play in the third with a shot from the right circle.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago RW Marian Hossa left the game in the first period with an upper-body injury and did not return. ... Hejduk's goal was the 375th of his career, tying him with Butch Goring and Trevor Linden for 104th place on the all-time list. ... Landeskog has now scored in a career-high three straight games. ...
