Defenseman Braydon Coburn netted his first goal of the season and Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 31 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 3-2 road triumph over the Florida Panthers on Sunday.
Danny Briere collected his third goal in five games and rookie Matt Read converted a penalty shot for Philadelphia, which improved to 5-1-1 on the road this season. The Flyers are also 4-0-2 since dropping a wild 9-8 decision to the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 27.
Coburn, who agreed to a four-year, $18 million contract extension on Wednesday, paid dividends 6:50 into the second period. The blue-liner accepted a feed from Jakub Voracek on the doorstep to give Philadelphia a 2-1 advantage.
Rookie Evgeny Dadonov, who was recalled after former Flyer Scottie Upshall was injured, put Florida on the scoreboard 3 1/2 minutes later.
After being hooked down, Read regained the two-goal lead by wristing the puck between the pads of Jose Theodore on the penalty shot.
Tomas Fleischmann scored with eight seconds remaining for the Panthers, who fell for the first time in regulation in their last seven games (3-1-3).
Theodore finished with 32 saves to suffer his first regulation loss in nine starts (7-1-1) versus the Flyers.
