Rookie Matt Read collected a goal and three assists as the Philadelphia Flyers erupted for a four-goal first period and put an end to a seven-game losing skid in Canada's capital city with a 7-2 triumph over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
Claude Giroux netted his team-leading fourth goal and set up another, and captain Chris Pronger extended his points streak to five games with an assist for Philadelphia, which won in Ottawa for the first time since Nov. 24, 2007.
Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 21 shots in his first start of the season to improve to 3-1-0 in his young career versus the Senators.
Read, who entered the game with only two points on the young season, opened the scoring with a sharp-angle shot which handcuffed Alex Auld at 6:20 of the first period. Wayne Simmonds doubled the advantage 100 seconds later after lifting a loose puck in the slot past a prone Auld, and Giroux and Max Talbot scored just over 2 1/2 minutes apart to cap the first-period uprising.
Rookie Sean Couturier and Harry Zolnierczyk netted their first career NHL goals as the Flyers scored three times in a 3:50 span in the third.
Jason Spezza snapped a three-game streak without a point by scoring with 61 seconds remaining in the second period for Ottawa, which has been outscored 19-4 in the first two periods this season.
