Jason Spezza and rookie Bobby Butler scored while Curtis McElhinney withstood a barrage in the third period as the Ottawa Senators held on for a 2-1 road victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday.
Making his first appearance since being claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on Feb. 28, McElhinney made 20 of his 34 saves in the final 20 minutes for the Senators, who have won six of their last seven road games and seven of 10 overall. Ottawa is 3-0 on its four-game road trip.
Spezza gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as he backhanded a loose puck past Dwayne Roloson from the doorstep during a power play for his ninth point in as many games.
Butler doubled the advantage 53 seconds into the middle session. After sneaking behind the defense, Butler took a pass from defenseman Sergei Gonchar and beat Roloson from alone in front for his seventh goal.
All-Star Martin St. Louis scored a power-play goal in the third and Roloson stopped 20 shots for the Lightning, who concluded a 1-2-1 homestand with their fifth loss in six overall contests.
