Luka Garza pumped in a game-high 33 points, and Jordan Bohannon added a 19-point, 14-assist double-double to lead No. 5 Iowa past No. 16 Minnesota 86-71 in Iowa City on Sunday.

Joe Wieskamp scored 20 points on 7-for-9 shooting for the Hawkeyes (11-2, 5-1 Big Ten), who canned 55.4 percent of its field goals and had an assist on 27 of 31 made baskets. Iowa also won the rebounding battle 41-36, with Jack Nunge coming off the bench to grab 10 in 17 minutes.

Four players scored in double figures for the Golden Gophers (10-4, 3-4 Big Ten), led by 13 points each from Marcus Carr and Both Gach. But Carr canned just 5 of 19 shots, part of a miserable shooting game by his team. Minnesota hit just 25 of 71 from the field (35.2 percent), including 10 of 34 from the 3-point line (29.4 percent).

Brandon Johnson scored 12 points and hauled in eight rebounds for the Gophers, and Liam Robbins chipped in 10 points.

Minnesota hung in the game despite poor shooting, chopping an 18-point deficit to 68-63 with 5:34 left on a 3-pointer by Jamal Mashburn Jr. But Garza stemmed the tide with a jumper and a layup, starting a game-ending 18-8 push.

Both teams got off to crisp starts offensively, with Iowa owning a 15-12 lead with 13:56 to play in the first half. But Minnesota cooled from there and the Hawkeyes started establishing separation.

Bohannon drilled a 3-pointer in transition with 10:35 remaining, boosting Iowa's lead to 26-17. At that point, the Golden Gophers finally found a way to contain the high-powered Hawkeyes, crawling within 31-29 on Carr's steal and layup with 4:31 left.

Minnesota tied the game at 37 when Gach sank two foul shots, but Garza converted twice from the line with 30 seconds on the clock. That enabled Iowa to head for the locker room with a 39-37 edge.

Garza finished the half with 15 points as the Hawkeyes shot 43.8 from the field while the Gophers canned only 36.1 percent for the field in the first half.
