Tyshawn Taylor and Conner Teahan each scored 13 points as No. 18 Kansas walloped Howard 89-34 Thursday at Allen Fieldhouse.
Thomas Robinson added nine points and seven rebounds for the Jayhawks (9-3), who won for the sixth time in seven games and increased their home non-conference win streak to 54.
Kansas put this one out of reach early, taking a 30-7 lead with 7:53 left in the first half on Teahan’s 3-pointer. The Jayhawks, who forced 23 turnovers, took a 42-13 advantage into halftime while shooting 55.6 percent from the field.
Howard (4-10, 1-1 MEAC), which had lost four of five coming in, misfired on 20 of its first 25 attempts and committed 11 of its turnovers in a forgettable first half. The 34 points is a new season-low, worse than the 43 it scored in an early-season loss to Old Dominion.
Prince Okoroh finished with a team-high seven points for Howard. Three Bison added five points, including Anton Dickerson, who managed to make one of the team’s three 3-pointers. As a team, Howard finished 3-of-18 from 3-point range and shot a season-low 22 percent from the field.
Kansas will play one final non-conference game at home against North Dakota on Saturday before Big 12 play begins Jan. 4 against No. 25 Kansas State.
Jeff Withey had 10 points and Elijah Johnson added nine for the Jayhawks, who finished with 11 steals and seven blocks.
