Alabama, playing its second consecutive game without leading scorer JaMychal Green (shoulder injury), began the game hitting only 5-of-14 field goals, but turned things around by making 8-of-10 in the final nine minutes of the half.
Trailing 23-19, the Tide went on a 15-5 run, aided by three consecutive 3-pointers-two from Tony Mitchell (13 of his 17 points in the first half) and one from Releford, who had 12 in the first half-to grab a 34-28 lead.
The Tide went up by as many as 10 points in the opening 20 minutes before Jacksonville closed to within 42-37 at halftime on a three-point play by Keith McDougald.
Delwan Graham led the Dolphins with 13 points.
