Tony Romo threw for three touchdowns in a near-flawless performance and the Dallas Cowboys rolled to a 44-7 victory over the visiting Buffalo Bills on Sunday in a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions.
Rookie DeMarco Murray rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown - his third 100-yard game in four starts - for the Cowboys (5-4), which began a stretch of three games in an 11-day span with its most complete performance of the season.
Dan Bailey kicked three field goals and Terence Newman returned an interception 43 yards for a score for Dallas.
The Cowboys came out red hot, scoring on each of their first four possessions to take a 28-7 lead at the half.
Playing without his protective Kevlar vest for the first time this season, Romo completed his first 13 attempts and was 18 of 19 for 237 yards in the first half. He finished 23 of 26 for 270 yards.
Romo threw two touchdowns to Laurent Robinson, who was filling in for an injured Miles Austin (hamstring), and another to Dez Bryant to improve to 12-0 at home in November.
It was an inauspicious start to the first three-game road trip in 10 years for the Bills (5-4), who have lost two straight for the first time this season. Buffalo committed four turnovers and looked even worse than it did in last week’s 27-11 loss to the New York Jets.
Dallas spoiled the homecoming of former Cowboys coach Chan Gailey and Bills star running back Fred Jackson (13 carries, 114 yards), who grew up in the neighborhood that was vacated to make room for Cowboys Stadium.
