Logan Couture scored 39 seconds into overtime to lift the San Jose Sharks to a 2-1 victory over the Pacific Division leading Vegas Golden Knights Thursday night at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.

Brent Burns, playing in his 500th game with the Sharks, scored his first goal in 16 games as San Jose (42-23-9) extended its winning streak to six games, winning for the ninth time in its last 11 contests. The Sharks, in second place in the Pacific, cut the Golden Knights' lead to seven points.

Martin Jones finished with 24 saves for San Jose including a big save on Jonathan Marchessault at the start of overtime.

Tomas Tatar scored for Vegas (47-21-6), which became the first expansion team in NHL history to hit the 100-point mark in a season.

Malcolm Subban, making his first start since a 5-2 loss at Minnesota on Feb. 1, had a career-high 42 saves for the Golden Knights.

Subban was replacing starter Marc-Andre Fleury, who is expected to join the team for its game at Colorado on Saturday afternoon after leaving Tuesday night's 4-1 win over Vancouver after taking a Brandon Sutter shot off his mask.

Tatar opened the scoring at the 3:47 mark of the first period when he took a pass from Marchessault while crossing in front of the net and backhanded a shot past Jones' left skate.

Burns tied it early in the second period with a long wrist shot from the right point that flew past Subban's right shoulder, his 11th goal of the season.

San Jose, which outshot Vegas, 44-25, finished 0-for-6 on the power play as Subban stopped 13 shots when the Sharks had the extra man.

Vegas, which had a two-game win streak snapped, was 31-5-1 when scoring first entering the contest.
