WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Two hockey teams showed up to the MTS Centre Sunday afternoon and the 1980s broke out.

Only instead of Dale Hawerchuk of the original Winnipeg Jets facing off against Bobby Smith of the Minnesota North Stars, Jets 2.0 took on the Minnesota Wild in an old fashioned shoot out.

The two teams combined for eight goals through two periods, and after building a 5-1 lead, the Jets withstood a furious late-game rally by the Wild to hold on for a 5-4 victory.

The Wild opened the scoring before half of the sold-out crowd was in their seats, when left winger Jason Zucker undressed defenseman Jacob Trouba off the opening face-off and ripped a shot past Jets goaltender Michael Hutchinson at the 10-second mark.

The public address announcer had barely finished announcing the goal when Jets center Bryan Little responded 72 second later, tipping home his fourth of the season past Wild netminder Darcy Kuemper to make it 1-1. The assists went to right winger Blake Wheeler and left winger Andrew Ladd.

The Jets No. 1 line stuck again just over two minutes later when Ladd scored his second of the season at 3:28 for a 2-1 lead. Little and Wheeler recorded the assists.

Nineteen-year-old rookie right winger Nikolaj Ehlers gave the home side a 3-1 lead when he used center Mark Scheifele as a decoy on a two-on-one at 12:12 to score his third of the season.

Right winger Drew Stafford chased Kuemper from the game when he snapped home his fourth of the season from the top of the circle just 51 seconds into the second period.

Stafford increased the lead to 5-1 with his second goal with some nifty stickhandling in the deep slot at 4:44.

But the Wild weren't done.

With Jets center Alexander Burmistrov off for elbowing -- a dreaded offensive zone penalty -- Wild captain Mikko Koivu snapped a shot over Hutchinson's right shoulder at 14:17 of the second period.

Just 38 second later, after a center-ice giveaway from Ehlers, Wild right winger Jason Fontaine batted a puck in out of mid-air to make it 5-3.

The Wild pulled within a goal midway through the third period when Trouba was stripped of the puck behind his own net by left winger Zach Parise, who banked one in off Hutchinson while falling down behind the goal line at 10:41. The goal was Parise's seventh of the season.

NOTES: Wild G Devan Dubnyk, who almost single-handedly saved Minnesota's season last year after coming over from Arizona in mid-January, was to be given a rare night off on Sunday. He was called upon in relief early in the second period after G Darcy Kuemper gave up his fourth goal on just 18 shots. ... The Jets are in the middle of a six-game homestand, tied for their second-longest of the season. ... Some Canadian media reports are already calling last year's trade that brought D Tyler Myers and RW Drew Stafford to Winnipeg, along with two prospects and a draft pick, for RW Evander Kane and D Zach Bogosian, one of the worst trades in NHL history. ... Jets C Nic Petan was inserted back into the line-up, replacing RW Anthony Peluso on the fourth line. ... Other scratches for the Jets are D Adam Pardy and D Paul Postma. ...
