Oilers 4, Canadiens 3 (OT): Anton Lander scored 1:47 into overtime after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tallied with 24.9 seconds left in regulation as visiting Edmonton halted Montreal's three-game winning streak in stunning fashion.
Nugent-Hopkins finished with a pair of goals and Matt Hendricks also scored as the Oilers beat the Canadiens for the sixth time in eight meetings and won their fourth straight in Montreal. Defenseman Oscar Klefbom notched two assists and Viktor Fasth turned aside 23 shots as Edmonton posted only its seventh road victory of the season.
Rookie Christian Thomas, Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty scored for the Canadiens, who lost for only the third time in 11 games (8-2-1) but still moved into a tie with Tampa Bay atop the Atlantic Division. Defenseman P.K. Subban collected a pair of assists and Dustin Tokarski made 34 saves.
Thomas scored his first NHL goal in his 12th game of the season and 15th career, ripping a wrist shot from just inside the top of the left faceoff circle into the top right corner of the net with 3:35 left in the opening period. Galchenyuk celebrated his 21st birthday by doubling the lead 1:06 into the second period with a one-timer from the right circle off a crossing pass from Subban.
Edmonton rallied as Hendricks tipped in defenseman Jeff Petry's shot from the right point less than three minutes after Galchenyuk's tally before Nugent-Hopkins drew the Oilers even off a rebound with 5:51 left in the session. Pacioretty finished a 2-on-1 rush just before the midway point of the third, but Nugent-Hopkins registered the equalizer after Klefbom blocked Tomas Plekanec's empty-net chance.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pacioretty's 25th goal marked the fifth time this season Montreal scored during 4-on-4 play. ... Nugent-Hopkins ended his eight-game goalless drought while C Jordan Eberle assisted on the All-Star's first tally for his eighth point in seven games. ... Canadiens rookie LW Jacob De La Rose recorded his first NHL point with an assist on the goal by Thomas, who also notched his initial point.
