Canadiens 5, Senators 4 (OT): Defenseman P.K. Subban scored 23 seconds into overtime as visiting Montreal prevailed in the opener of a four-game road trip.

Subban wasted no time getting the Canadiens a pivotal extra point, snapping a shot past Craig Anderson to give his club its first win in six meetings with the Senators. Tomas Plekanec scored twice, Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais also had goals and Carey Price stopped 40 shots for Montreal.

Blue-liner Erik Karlsson recorded a goal and two assists to pace the Senators, who fought back from a 3-0 first-period deficit but fell just short. Clarke MacArthur scored and set up a goal, Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris also tallied and Anderson made 18 saves.

While the Senators dominated play in the early going - outshooting Montreal 19-7 in the opening period - it was the Canadiens who exited the wild session with the lead. A short-handed breakaway goal by Plekanec and tallies from Pacioretty and Desharnais 1:31 apart put Montreal ahead 3-0, but the Senators responded with goals by MacArthur - his sixth in seven games - and Karlsson to make a game of it.

Ottawa continued its shot barrage in the second - leading 30-8 at one point - and it finally paid off late in the period as Ryan snapped a wrist shot past Price from the left faceoff circle at 17:16 and Turris completed a 3-on-2 rush with a soft backhander that beat a fallen Price 1:24 later. Montreal evened it 11:02 into the third as the rebound of Plekanec's breakaway attempt glanced off Senators defenseman Jared Cowen's skate and past Anderson.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Desharnais returned to the lineup after missing the previous game due to illness. ... Senators C Jason Spezza had the setup of the night on Karlsson's first-period goal, hitting the streaking defenseman with a perfect diagonal pass from the right point. ...
