Dany Heatley recorded a goal and two assists and Devin Setoguchi scored and set up a tally as the Minnesota Wild exploded in the second period en route to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Dallas Stars on Saturday.
Cal Clutterbuck, Chad Rau and Kyle Brodziak scored within a 59-second span in the second period for the Wild, who snapped a four-game slide and reached five goals in regulation for the first time since Dec. 4. Minnesota had totaled six goals during its latest losing streak.
The Wild trailed by a 2-1 margin when the fireworks started in the second.
Clutterbuck and Matt Cullen hooked up for the tying score with 6:23 left in the period. Clutterbuck stole the puck and dropped it off to Cullen to avoid a hit. Cullen sent the puck right back in the slot and Clutterbuck deposited it in the net.
Rau, who was playing in his first NHL game, was next. The Minnesota native struck 14 seconds later, getting up off the ice behind the net and fighting to get the puck back for a wraparound tally.
Brodziak capped the stretch by taking a strong feed from Heatley across the slot and pushing it past Kari Lehtonen into the open net.
Heatley welcomed backup rookie goaltender Richard Bachman into the game with his 14th goal early in the third to put the game away.
