St. John's 67, No. 20 Notre Dame 63: JaKarr Sampson scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half and the host Red Storm survived a wild stretch run to upset the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame went the final 2:50 without a point in falling for the fifth straight time at Madison Square Garden. Phil Greene IV had 13 points and Amir Garrett added 11 off the bench for St. John's (10-7, 2-3 Big East), which had two of its nine blocked shots in the final 22 seconds.

Eric Atkins scored a season-high 21 points and had a career-high six steals for the Irish (14-4, 2-2), who have dropped two straight after winning 12 in a row. Jerian Grant added 14 points while leading scorer and rebounder Jack Cooley had 10 points, but sat out the stretch run.

Cooley's layup with 16:26 left gave the Irish a 39-37 lead. They missed five straight shots and committed a turnover in a scoreless stretch that lasted more than four minutes, and D'Angelo Harrison's 3-pointer midway through the half provided the hosts with their largest lead at 55-43.

Notre Dame responded with an 18-4 run and regained the lead on an Atkins basket with 4:32 to go. Harrison hit another 3-pointer to put St. John's ahead 64-63 with 2:32 left. The Irish then missed their last four shots, one of which was blocked by Harrison with 22 seconds left and another by Chris Obekpa with seven seconds remaining and the Red Storm ahead by two points.
